Frank Foster / NA UMEKE

Our neighbors at Hale Plumeria - Frank and Raynel Foster and their family own the Smokie Blossom Acres Plumeria Farm. Frank Foster has studied the art of Na Umeke - The Hawaiian Calabash under the master guidance of Stewart V. Medeiros Sr. Since some time around 500 AD the Hawaiian People have been making and using wooden bowls for many purposes an in varied designs. Used to keep and serve Poi, the main staple of the Hawaiian diet, Bowls have become a symbol to many of Shared Sustenance and Family Heritage. Mr. Foster has been practicing the art of Na Umeke and has available many examples of this beautiful tradition. Please contact Raynel Foster at Smokie Blossom Acres (808.638.7771) if you have an interest in making an appointment to see and share this special work.
